About

Nikola Šuhaj was a real-life outlaw from Subcarpathian Ruthenia who died on 16 August 1921. Writer Ivan Olbracht turned him into a literary figure in his 1933 novel Nikola Šuhaj loupežník, for which he received the State Prize for Literature. In the 1970s, Milan Uhde and Miloš Štědroň adapted the story into a theatrical ballad that became an iconic production of the Husa na provázku theatre.
