About

The Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theatre is Kyiv's foremost drama stage, named after the Ukrainian poet and writer Ivan Franko. Founded in 1920 in Vinnytsia by director Hnat Yura and actors from the Molodyi Teatr, the company moved to Kyiv in 1926 and has occupied the former Solovtsov Theatre building ever since. It received the academic title in 1940 and national status in 1994, and today runs a repertoire of over 50 productions spanning Ukrainian and world classics alongside contemporary drama.
