Morgenshtern (born Alisher Tagirovich Valeyev, February 17, 1998, Ufa) is a Russian rapper, producer and showman who built one of the largest Russian-language audiences on YouTube through provocative lyrics and a bold visual identity. He left Russia in late 2021 amid drug-related accusations and was subsequently designated a "foreign agent" by Russian authorities in May 2022. In recent years he has shifted his artistic direction toward Russian rock, releasing the EP Alisher (2025) and the acoustic live album Dead Sea Live (2026) after publicly addressing his struggle with bipolar disorder.
A Moscow court sentenced Morgenshtern in absentia to a fine of 7 million rubles for failing to fulfill foreign agent obligations - specifically for posts on Telegram, Instagram and YouTube without mandatory labeling.
Lithuania's highest administrative court annulled a ten-year entry ban on Morgenshtern to Lithuania, which was issued in November 2025 and forced him to cancel a planned concert in Vilnius.
Morgenshtern released a live album Dead Sea Live - acoustic recordings from a concert on a salt island in the middle of the Dead Sea in Israel, confirming his turn towards Russian rock.
He released the EP Alisher, a five-track rock album that continued the success of the single "Последняя Любовь" and confirmed his departure from hip-hop.
Russian police issued an arrest warrant for Morgenshtern for violating the foreign agents law; Russian authorities simultaneously confiscated his real estate in the Moscow area.
