The Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc performs celebrated opera overtures in the courtyard of an Austrian castle, featuring masterworks by Rossini, Mozart, Verdi and other classical composers.
The Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc was founded on 26 May 1945 and is the second oldest symphony orchestra in the Czech Republic. Based at the Reduta concert hall in Olomouc, it has since 2025 operated as part of a merged city institution together with the Moravian Theatre. Over eight decades the orchestra has given world premieres of more than 250 works and performed alongside artists such as Otto Klemperer, Sviatoslav Richter and Gidon Kremer. It organises the Dvořák Olomouc and International Organ Festival Olomouc festivals.
Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc opened its jubilee 80th season on September 25, 2025 with a gala concert at the Reduta, broadcast live by Czech Radio Vltava.
At the opening concert of the 80th season, the world premiere of the composition Prayer for Music by Slovak composer Jana Kmiťová, written specifically for MFO, was performed.
Since January 1, 2025, Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc operates as part of a new merged public institution Moravské divadlo and Moravská filharmonie; David Gerneš became the director.
Chief conductor Zsolt Hamar confirmed his continuation in the position within the merged institution and will participate in the artistic direction of Moravské divadlo.
Moravian Philharmonic published a brochure for the 81st concert season 2026/2027 with a program including, among others, harpsichordist Mahana Esfahaniho.
