Miroslav Knedla

About

Miroslav Knedla (born 18 July 2005 in Ostrava) is a Czech backstroke swimmer and member of Plavecký klub Zlín. He won gold in both the 50 m and 100 m backstroke at the 2023 World Junior Championships in Netanya, then reached the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Since autumn 2024 he has trained under coach Ray Looze at Indiana University in Bloomington.

    Knedla was declared the most successful athlete of the city of Zlín for the third consecutive time, this time for the 2025 season, in which he improved the Czech record seven times and won six gold medals at the summer Czech championship in Plzen.

    At the European short course championship in Polish Lublin, Knedla won silver on 50 m backstroke with a time of 22.69 s and simultaneously improved the Czech record - he was separated from the gold medal by just one hundredth of a second.

    At the World Championships in Singapore, Knedla swam a new Czech record of 53.15 s in the 100 m backstroke semifinal, but it was not enough for the final - a time of 52.57 s was required to advance.

    At the same championship in Singapore, Knedla advanced from third place to the semifinal of the 50 m backstroke race and simultaneously improved his own Czech record to 24.52 seconds.

    Knedla defended the title of the most successful athlete of Zlín for 2024; his father received the award on his behalf, as the swimmer studies at Indiana University in Bloomington.
