Mike Myers (born May 25, 1963, in Scarborough, Ontario) is a Canadian actor, comedian, screenwriter and producer who rose to fame as a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1989 to 1995, then built three defining film franchises: Wayne's World, Austin Powers and Shrek. The Shrek series, in which he voices the title ogre, ranks as the second highest-grossing animated franchise ever, with combined box office receipts exceeding $4 billion. In 2017 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada for his body of comedic work.
Myers appeared on the red carpet at the AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony in Hollywood, where Eddie Murphy was honored - this is one of his rare public appearances.
Myers is currently working on the animated film Shrek 5, which is scheduled to premiere in December 2026.
In an interview with The New York Times, Myers defended his protest on SNL in support of Canada and stated that his gesture was directed against rhetoric about Canada as the "51st state" of the USA.
Myers returned to Saturday Night Live, where he played Elon Musk, and in the closing credits revealed a shirt with the text "Canada Is Not For Sale" as an expression of solidarity with Canada.
