Michal Vajdička (born 1976, Martin, Slovakia) is a Slovak theatre director who has worked regularly in Czech theatres since the early 2000s. He studied directing at VŠMU in Bratislava, served as artistic director of Dejvické divadlo in Prague (2014-2016) and headed the drama ensemble of the Slovak National Theatre (2018-19). Since the 2022/23 season he is a resident director at the Prague National Theatre while also teaching at VŠMU. His work spans classical drama and sharp black comedies; he holds two Alfréd Radok Awards and the Czech Theatre Critics' Award for production of the year 2022.
At the Theatre in Dlouhá, on January 25, 2025, Vajdička's production of Cardboard Dad premiered, based on the play by Hungarian dramatist István Tasnádi.
In 2025, Vajdička staged at the Slovak National Theatre the production Ball and Other Stories from the Train to Calais based on Maupassant in the dramatization by Daniel Majling, and at the Theatre in Stodola presented McDonagh's The Forgotten West.
In 2024, Vajdička presented at the Dejvické Theatre the production We Lost Stalin and at the Estates Theatre the production White Water based on the novel by Kateřina Tučková.
The production The End of the Red Man (Theatre in Dlouhá, 2022) received the Czech Theatre Critics' Award for Production of the Year 2022 and was also voted the best production of the year in the Theatre News poll.
Since the 2022/23 season, Vajdička has taken the position of resident director of the Prague National Theatre, where he works together with the SKUTR collective.
