Michael Curtiz (1886-1962) was a Hungarian-born American film director who made 178 films over a career stretching from 1912 to 1961, working across virtually every genre. He joined Warner Bros. in 1926 and became one of the studio's most prolific contract directors; his 1942 film Casablanca, starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, won him the Academy Award for Best Director.
