Michael Cera (born June 7, 1988, in Brampton, Ontario) is a Canadian actor and musician who built his name on a run of late-2000s comedies - Superbad, Juno, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - playing awkward, deadpan leads with a style that became instantly recognizable. He first gained wide attention as George Michael Bluth in the cult sitcom Arrested Development (2003-2019). Recent years have seen him branch out: a scene-stealing turn as Allan in Barbie (2023), a praised performance in Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme (2025), and his own feature directorial debut, Love Is Not the Answer, currently in production.
Cera is directing his directorial debut Love Is Not the Answer - an absurd comedy whose screenplay he wrote himself; starring Pamela Anderson, Steve Coogan and Jamie Dornan.
Filming of Love Is Not the Answer began in November 2025 in the Canadian province of Ontario.
The film The Phoenician Scheme by Wes Anderson, in which Cera plays Norwegian entomologist Björn Lund, had its world premiere at the Cannes festival and received mostly positive reviews.
Critics praised Cera's performance in The Phoenician Scheme as one of the best of his career; Slate called his character the greatest contribution of the entire cast.
Cera reunited with director Edgar Wright on the film The Running Man (Paramount, premiere November 2025), an adaptation of Stephen King's novel.
