About

Matěj Kopecký (1775–1847) was a legendary Czech travelling puppeteer, widely regarded as the patriarch of Czech puppetry. Born near Hradec Králové, he is credited with introducing the Kašpárek (Punch-like) character to Czech puppet theatre.
