
Waking Vision (USA/BG/SK) ft. John Shannon/Peter Slavov/Martin Valihora
International jazz project featuring American saxophonist John Shannon alongside Bulgarian and Slovak musicians. Experimental jazz in Prague.
Martin Valihora (born 4 May 1976, Bratislava) is a Slovak drummer and percussionist working across jazz, funk, R&B and world music. Born into a musical family, he studied at the Bratislava Conservatory before earning a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, after which he built a career on the New York jazz scene. He gained wide international recognition through four years (2004-2008) with Japanese pianist Hiromi Uehara's trio and Sonicbloom quartet, and today serves as drummer for Czech band Dan Bárta & Illustratosphere while leading his own projects DALIMA and Waking Vision.
Valihora led his own quartet at a concert at the Parisian L'Entrepôt (November 13, 2024) with pianist James Francies, bassist Daniel Camardou, and guitarist Michal Bugala.
Valihora performed as a guest drummer at the Christmas concert Vianoce v Bratislave at the Slovak National Theatre alongside violinist Amadea Jánošky and the Bratislava Boys' Choir.
Valihora participated in the concert Dominic Miller // Lash & Grey feat. Dan Bárta, Robert Balzar, Martin Valihora at Šimák Castle in Pezinok (June 1, 2024).
The band Waking Vision, of which Valihora is a member, released the album The Breathing Earth (July 20, 2023).
Valihora participated in the documented tour Dan Bárta & Illustratosphere Zvířený prach, which included a concert at the Brno SONO Music Club (November 28, 2022).
