About

Madeleine Lebeau (1923-2016) was a French film actress best known for playing Yvonne, the jilted girlfriend of Humphrey Bogart's Rick Blaine, in Casablanca (1942). Her tear-streaked face during the 'La Marseillaise' scene carries an extra charge of authenticity - she had herself fled Nazi-occupied France in 1940. She later appeared in Federico Fellini's 8½ (1963) and died in Spain in 2016 as the last surviving credited cast member of Casablanca.
