Lana Wachowski is an American film director, screenwriter and producer, born June 21, 1965 in Chicago. Together with her sister Lilly, she created the Matrix trilogy (1999-2003), which grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide and reshaped science-fiction cinema. She returned solo to direct The Matrix Resurrections (2021) and is attached as executive producer on the upcoming fifth installment. Beyond the Matrix franchise, her credits include Cloud Atlas (2012) and the Netflix series Sense8 (2015-2018).
Director Drew Goddard confirmed that he is actively writing the screenplay for Matrix 5; Lana Wachowski remains on the project as executive producer.
Laurence Fishburne on the show The View did not rule out a return to Matrix 5, but made it conditional on the quality of the screenplay and casting.
Warner Bros. announced Matrix 5 with director Drew Goddard - for the first time in the franchise's history without the Wachowskis in the director's chair.
