About

The Koutev Bulgarian National Ensemble (also known as the Filip Kutev Ensemble) is a Bulgarian state folklore ensemble founded in 1951 by composer Filip Kutev. It blends traditional Bulgarian folk songs and dances with Western classical harmonies, and is celebrated for its distinctive female choir and instruments such as the gadulka, kaval, and gaida. The ensemble's choir contributed to the album Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares, which won a Grammy Award in 1989.
