Kirk Douglas was an American film actor and one of Hollywood's biggest stars from the 1940s through the 1970s. He was known for playing driven, intense characters - most famously the title role in Spartacus (1960). His portrayal of Vincent van Gogh in Lust for Life (1956) earned him an Academy Award nomination.
