Karel Vachek is a Czech documentary filmmaker known for his essayistic style and sharp engagement with politics and society. He made his name with Moravská Hellas (1963) and, after a forced break during the normalization era, returned with sprawling documentary essays on Czech life after 1989. His films are characterized by their length, polyphonic structure, and the director's own active presence on screen.
