Karel Kryl (1944–1994) was a Czech singer-songwriter, poet and graphic artist. He became famous for his poetic protest songs, most notably "Bratříčku, zavírej vrátka" (1969), written in response to the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia. After emigrating in 1969, he lived in Germany and broadcast for Radio Free Europe.
