Dame Julie Andrews (born Julia Elizabeth Wells, 1 October 1935) is a British actress, singer and author best known for her title roles in Mary Poppins (1964) and The Sound of Music (1965), two of the most enduringly popular musical films ever made. Her debut film role earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress, and her career has since accumulated Golden Globe, Emmy, Grammy, BAFTA and SAG honours. In recent years she has focused on voice work - most notably as the narrator Lady Whistledown in Netflix's Bridgerton - and on writing children's books with her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton.
