Josef Čapek (1887–1945) was a Czech painter, graphic artist, illustrator, and writer, and the brother of Karel Čapek. He was a pioneer of Czech Cubism and modern art, and is also credited with coining the word "robot" for his brother's play. His works are held in the collections of the National Gallery in Prague.
