Joel Coen (born 1954) is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer who spent four decades making films alongside his brother Ethan. Together they made Fargo, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men and other acclaimed works, winning four Academy Awards for best picture, directing, and screenplay. Since 2021 Joel has been working solo - his debut The Tragedy of Macbeth, starring Denzel Washington, earned three Oscar nominations.
