Joan Shawlee (March 5, 1926 - March 22, 1987) was an American film and television actress who made a career out of sharp-tongued comic supporting roles. She is best known as Sweet Sue, the iron-fisted leader of the all-girl jazz band in Billy Wilder's Some Like It Hot (1959); Wilder kept casting her in his subsequent films, including The Apartment (1960), Irma la Douce (1963), and his final picture Buddy Buddy (1981). On television she had a recurring role as Pickles Sorrell in The Dick Van Dyke Show, and her last screen appearance came in 1985.
