Jiří Kylián is a Czech choreographer of international standing, born in 1947 in Prague. He spent most of his career in the Netherlands, where he led the Nederlands Dans Theater and created hundreds of works. His choreography blends classical ballet with contemporary dance, marked by musical sensitivity and physical expressiveness. Among his best-known pieces is Six Dances, set to music by W. A. Mozart.
The National Theatre Ballet presents a triptych of three contemporary choreographies: a new work by Robert Bondara set to Max Richter's reinterpretation of Vivaldi, a Jiří Kylián classic, and Marco Goecke's piece featuring Martinů and James Brown.
The second major ballet premiere of DJKT in the 2025/2026 season is a curated evening of choreographies by different authors in modern and neoclassical styles, united by themes of inner worlds and Czech identity.
