About

The Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava is a symphony orchestra based in Ostrava, Czech Republic, with roots going back to a radio orchestra founded in 1929. Formally established in 1954 and bearing its current name since 1971, the orchestra fields over a hundred musicians from Czechia and abroad, giving more than fifty home concerts a year while touring regularly across Europe and beyond. Daniel Raiskin took over as chief conductor and artistic director from the 2026/27 season.

What's new

  • 2026-04

    In April 2026, JFO presented the program for the 73rd season (2026/27) with the subtitle Fundament - the first season under the leadership of new chief conductor Daniel Raiskin and with resident soloist Alena Baeva.

    In February 2026, JFO successfully completed its historically first tour of Great Britain - seven concerts over eight days in Birmingham, Guildford, Bristol, Bradford, Cheltenham, London, and Sheffield.

    In July 2026, the orchestra will perform at Amsterdam's Concertgebouw with cellist Bryan Cheng under the baton of Daniel Raiskin.

    In 2026, JFO took on the production of the Leos Janacek International Music Festival for the first time, which takes place from June 1 to July 3, 2026 in iconic locations of the Moravskoslezsk region.

  • 2026-01

    At the beginning of 2026, JFO performed three sold-out concerts in honor of David Stipka at Ostrava's Gongo and New Year concerts with pianist Alexei Volodin.
