About
Jack Lemmon (1925-2001) was an American actor who became the first person to win Academy Awards for both a supporting and a leading role - for Mister Roberts (1955) and Save the Tiger (1973). His fifty-year career ranged from screwball comedy to social drama, with his collaborations with director Billy Wilder on Some Like It Hot (1959) and The Apartment (1960) standing as landmarks of Hollywood cinema. He also won acting prizes at Cannes and Berlin, and received the AFI Life Achievement Award and Kennedy Center Honors.
