J. Lee Thompson was a British film director best known for action and adventure pictures. His 1969 western Mackenna's Gold, starring Gregory Peck and Omar Sharif, became one of his most recognizable works. He also directed the thriller Cape Fear (1962), which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
