Ingrid Thulin (1926-2004) was a Swedish actress and director, born in Sollefteå and trained at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm. She earned international recognition through nine films with Ingmar Bergman - from Wild Strawberries (1957) and The Silence (1963) to Cries and Whispers (1972) - and also worked with Luchino Visconti and Alain Resnais. Her Cannes Best Actress prize for Brink of Life (1958) cemented her place alongside Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergman as one of the greatest Swedish screen actresses.
