Ilya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov were Soviet satirical writers who collaborated in the 1920s and 1930s. They are best known for the novels The Twelve Chairs (1928) and The Golden Calf (1931), which mock Soviet society through the adventures of the charming con man Ostap Bender.
