Ian McDiarmid is a Scottish actor best known for playing Emperor Palpatine in the Star Wars films. He also co-founded and served as artistic director of the Almeida Theatre in London. In Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow (1999) he plays Dr. Thomas Lancaster.
