Ian Hart (born Ian Davies, 8 October 1964, Liverpool) is an English actor with a career spanning theatre, television and film. He first drew wide attention playing John Lennon twice in the early 1990s - in The Hours and Times and Backbeat - then reached global audiences as Professor Quirrell in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001). His role in Nothing Personal earned him the Volpi Cup for Best Supporting Performer at the 52nd Venice Film Festival.
Hart joined the cast of the upcoming Netflix film Luther 3 alongside Idris Elba; filming began in February 2026.
In the film Words of War (2025) directed by Sean Penn, which premiered in the USA on May 2, 2025, Hart played the role of Lt. Col. Egorov.
Hart played the mysterious Oxford professor Euan Rossi in the ninth season of the Scottish detective series Shetland (2024).
In the three-part ITV miniseries Mr Bates vs. The Post Office (2024) he played investigator Bob Rutherford.
Hart appeared in the war thriller Shoshana (2023), set in the 1930s in Tel Aviv.
