Hugo Wallace Weaving (born 4 April 1960, Nigeria) is a British-Australian actor who has spent his entire career in Australia. He is best known internationally as Agent Smith in the Matrix trilogy (1999-2003) and Elrond in The Lord of the Rings, but he has an equally distinguished stage career, particularly with the Sydney Theatre Company. He holds six AACTA Awards and was appointed an Honorary Officer of the Order of Australia.
The fifth season of the spy series Slow Horses (Apple TV+) with Weaving in the role of Frank Harkness premiered on September 24, 2025.
Weaving confirmed his return to the fifth season of Slow Horses - filming in London lasted two and a half months from January 2025.
At the film festival in Goa, Weaving presented the Australian film The Rooster (2024), in which he plays a hermit with a secret.
Director Stephan Elliott confirmed that the sequel Priscilla, Queen of the Desert 2 is in development and Weaving will return to his original role.
Weaving stated that he does not intend to return to any future Tolkien adaptation, including the upcoming production The Hunt for Gollum (2026).
