Hjalmar Schacht (1877–1970) was a German economist, banker and politician. As president of the Reichsbank and Reich Minister of Economics in 1933–1937, he played a central role in financing Nazi rearmament. After the war he was acquitted at the Nuremberg trials. The nickname "Hitler's banker" followed him for the rest of his life.
