Hisaya Morishige (森繁久彌, 4 May 1913 - 10 November 2009) was a Japanese actor, comedian and singer widely regarded as one of the defining entertainers of 20th-century Japan. He starred in nearly 250 films, becoming a household name through Toho's comedy series "Shacho" (Company President) and "Ekimae" (Station Front). On stage he played Tevye in the Japanese production of Fiddler on the Roof a record 900 times between 1967 and 1986, and in 1991 the Emperor of Japan awarded him the Order of Culture.
NHK BS re-broadcast the documentary film 'NHK Special: Morishige Hisaya - 900th Final' capturing his last performance in Fiddler on the Roof.
The film 'When the Wind Blows' (Kaze ga Fuku Toki) with Morishige's dubbing was re-released in Japanese distribution.
The Japanese version of the musical Fiddler on the Roof, whose tradition was founded by Morishige, was re-staged at the Meiji-za Theatre in Tokyo.
