About

Harve Presnell (1933-2009) was an American actor and baritone who started out as an opera singer before pivoting to Broadway in 1960, when composer Meredith Willson wrote the role of Johnny Brown in The Unsinkable Molly Brown specifically for him. He won a Golden Globe for the 1964 film version of that musical. After decades on stage, he returned to cinema as Wade Gustafson in the Coen Brothers' Fargo (1996), then went on to play supporting roles in Saving Private Ryan (1998) and Flags of Our Fathers (2006).
