Gloria Foster (November 15, 1933 - September 29, 2001) was an American actress whose career stretched across four decades of stage and screen work. She was a celebrated figure in New York theater, winning three Obie Awards - most notably for her performance in In White America. To film audiences worldwide she is best remembered as the Oracle in The Matrix (1999) and The Matrix Reloaded (2003); she died of diabetes complications in September 2001 before her scenes for the third installment could be filmed.
