Georges Bernanos (1888–1948) was a French Catholic writer and essayist, noted for his profound spiritual themes and critique of modern society. His novella Dialogues des Carmélites served as the literary basis for Francis Poulenc's opera of the same name. His best-known work is the novel Journal d'un curé de campagne (Diary of a Country Priest).
