Gary Alan Sinise (born March 17, 1955) is an American actor, director, musician, and philanthropist with a career spanning five decades. He earned an Oscar nomination for his role as Lt. Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump (1994) and co-founded Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 1974. In 2011 he established the Gary Sinise Foundation, which builds mortgage-free smart homes for severely wounded veterans and supports first responders. Since 2003 he has fronted the Lt. Dan Band, performing charity concerts for U.S. troops.
