Fritz Lang (1890–1976) was an Austrian-German film director, one of the most influential figures in silent cinema and film noir. His silent science-fiction epic Metropolis (1927) is regarded as a landmark of world cinema. He later emigrated to the United States, where he directed numerous classic thrillers and noir films.
