Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara, 5 September 1946 - 24 November 1991) was a British singer, songwriter and pianist, best known as the frontman of rock band Queen. Born in Zanzibar to Indian Parsi parents, he grew up in India before his family settled in England in 1964. He co-founded Queen in 1970 with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, and went on to write some of rock's most enduring songs - among them Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen and We Are the Champions. His four-octave vocal range and flamboyant stage persona made him one of the most celebrated live performers in rock history. He died aged 45 from complications of AIDS.
