František Vláčil (1924–1999) was a Czech film director regarded as one of the most important figures in Czech cinema. He is best known for his visually poetic historical films Marketa Lazarová and The Valley of the Bees. His later work includes Dým bramborové natě (Smoke on the Potato Fields).
