Francisco José Goya (1746–1828) was a Spanish painter and printmaker, one of the most important artists of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He served as court painter to the Spanish Crown and is known for his portraits, frescoes, and the print series Los Caprichos. His late, darkly expressive works anticipated modern art movements.
