Forest Steven Whitaker (born July 15, 1961, in Longview, Texas) is an American actor, director, producer and humanitarian. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2007 for playing Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland, adding a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for the same role. Alongside films such as Ghost Dog, The Butler and Black Panther, he founded the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative and serves as a UNESCO Special Envoy for Peace.
At the Joy Awards ceremony in Riyadh, he received an award for lifetime contribution to cinema, appearing at the event with a cane.
He was nominated for the NAACP Image Award in the category of best actor in a drama series.
