Fernando Fernán Gómez (1921, Lima - 2007, Madrid) was a Spanish actor, film and theatre director, playwright, and novelist - one of the most versatile figures in 20th-century Spanish culture. Over six decades he appeared in more than 200 films, directed over 30 of his own, and in 2000 was elected to the Royal Spanish Academy. He won the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Berlin Film Festival twice and collected six Goya Awards across acting, directing, and screenwriting.

    The Spanish Ministry of Culture purchased for 100,000 euros the personal archive of Fernán Gómez and his partner Emmy Cohen - 252 boxes with manuscripts, scripts and documents - and entrusted it to the care of Filmoteca Española.

    On the occasion of the centenary of Fernán Gómez's birth, the Spanish Film Academy organized a series of commemorative events and published a comprehensive overview of his work.
