Erykah Badu (born Erica Abi Wright, February 26, 1971, in Dallas) is an American singer-songwriter and producer whose 1997 debut Baduizm helped define neo-soul as a genre. Her vocal style drew early comparisons to Billie Holiday, and five Grammy wins across a career spanning more than two decades have cemented her place as one of progressive R&B's most influential figures. Beyond music, she received the 2024 CFDA Fashion Icon Award.
