Sunset Boulevard
Billy Wilder's legendary film about the downfall of a silent-film Hollywood star. A dark satire on the myths and illusions of classical Hollywood, starring Gloria Swanson.
Erich von Stroheim (1885, Vienna - 1957, France) was an Austrian-American director, screenwriter and actor whose career spanned the silent era and the classical Hollywood period. As a director he was notorious for uncompromising perfectionism - his original cut of Greed (1924) ran over nine hours before MGM reduced it to two. As an actor he left his mark in Renoir's Grand Illusion (1937) and Billy Wilder's Sunset Boulevard (1950), the latter earning him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
