Destin Daniel Cretton (born November 23, 1978, in Haiku, Hawaii) is an American filmmaker of half-Japanese descent. He broke through with the intimate drama Short Term 12 (2013), drawn from his own time working at a group home for at-risk teenagers, before becoming a key Marvel Studios director with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), which grossed over $432 million worldwide. In 2026 he released the Disney+ series Wonder Man and is set to direct Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31, 2026) with Tom Holland.
Cretton confirmed in an interview for the Crew Call podcast that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is heading to theaters on July 31, 2026, and commented on the possibility of continuing the series.
The Wonder Man series on Disney+ was renewed for a second season; Cretton will return as director and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley will reprise their roles.
Cretton announced the completion of filming for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The complete first season of the Wonder Man series, created by Cretton together with Andrew Guest, was released on Disney+ on January 27, 2026.
Cretton was confirmed as director and co-writer of the live-action Naruto film for Lionsgate, based on the manga series of the same name.
