Dave Brubeck was an American jazz pianist and composer, one of the most prominent figures of cool jazz in the 20th century. He is best known for experimenting with unusual time signatures, particularly the piece "Take Five" in 5/4 time, which became one of the best-selling jazz recordings ever. He led the Dave Brubeck Quartet, active from the 1950s through the 1960s.
