A Jump into the Wild
A sci-fi film about a girl who explores the mysteries of the animal kingdom through the eyes of a robotic beaver.
Daniel Chong (born November 19, 1978 in Fargo, North Dakota) is an American animator, writer, and director of Singaporean-Chinese descent. He created the Cartoon Network series We Bare Bears (2015-2019), which grew out of a webcomic he drew in 2010, and directed its 2020 feature-length finale. A veteran story artist at Pixar, Disney, Blue Sky, and Illumination - with credits including Inside Out and the Annie Award-winning Toy Story of Terror! - he returned to Pixar to write and direct Hoppers (2026), the studio's biggest original-film opening since Coco.
Pixar's animated film Hoppers, written and directed by Chong, entered cinemas on March 6, 2026, and earned 88 million dollars worldwide in its opening weekend - the biggest start for original animation since Coco (2017).
Hoppers received 94% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes and over 93% from critics; reviewers praised the unusual, sometimes dark humor that Chong brought from his experience working on We Bare Bears.
By the end of April 2026, Hoppers' worldwide box office earnings exceeded the 500 million dollar mark, making the film the highest-grossing Hollywood title of 2026 at that time.
The world premiere of Hoppers took place on February 23, 2026, at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles.
In July 2025, Pixar released the first teaser for the film Hoppers; footage from Annecy generated great interest among animation fans even before the animation was completed.
