An intimate festival celebrating Japanese culture, anime, and manga in Ostrava from August 14-17.
Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko CZ is the Prague branch of the international Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko organisation, founded in 2019 by Kayoko Kimura - the first chapter of its kind in Europe. The group performs creative eisā, an Okinawan drum dance rooted in Obon festival ceremonies, fused with karate techniques and contemporary music. The parent organisation was established in Okinawa in 1982 and now spans more than 50 branches in Japan and 28 branches across eight other countries, with around 2,500 members worldwide.
The group performed at the 19th annual Japanese Film and Culture Festival Eiga-sai at Lucerna Cinema in Prague, where members came from Japan to support them.
The ensemble participated in the Tanabata festival in Prague, where it performed taiko drums as part of a Czech-Japanese cultural program.
Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko CZ performed at Animefest 2025 with a program of Okinawan eisā drums and a subsequent workshop for visitors.
The ensemble opened the cultural program of the Japanese Embassy festival in Prague, where it performed the traditional eisā dance.
