Claude Rains (1889-1967) was a London-born British actor whose stage and screen career stretched across 47 years. He became one of Hollywood's most distinctive character actors, celebrated for roles in The Invisible Man (1933), Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), Casablanca (1942), and Notorious (1946). Despite four Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor, he never won the Oscar.
