Ciarán Hinds (born 9 February 1953 in Belfast) is an Irish actor whose career spans more than fifty years across stage and screen. Trained at RADA, he worked with the Glasgow Citizens' Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre before building an extensive film and television profile. His role in Kenneth Branagh's Belfast (2021) earned him Oscar and BAFTA nominations for Best Supporting Actor, and in 2020 The Irish Times ranked him 31st among Ireland's greatest film actors.
The Irish Film Academy IFTA awarded Hinds a lifetime achievement award at a ceremonial event in Dublin on February 20, 2026.
The film Midwinter Break (2026), in which Hinds stars alongside Lesley Manville, had its American premiere on February 20, 2026.
The five-part miniseries The Narrow Road to the Deep North was released on the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video, in which Hinds played a key role.
In the second season of the series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Amazon), Hinds played the character of the Dark Sorcerer.
Hinds became an executive producer of the short film Three Keenings, which is seeking Oscar qualification.
